While looking through the Collective Archive, I noticed some recurring imagery: daytime beach scenes and otherworldly/fantastical creatures and scenes. I was fascinated by the contrast between realistic everyday life and the fantastical, so I decided to combine these two things to make a comic strip about an apocalyptic invasion of fantastical beings at the beach. The characters either realize it's a dream or decide to go to sleep and worry about it later; I haven't decided yet. The WIP attached is a simple layout of the panels with the focal actions of each. More images will be layered and edited in the final collage to make cohesive scenes. The current text is a placeholder. The final text will be collaged from images in the archive. There will also be color adjustments made to some images to match the time of day/look more interesting. Some figures will be masked to change the background. I really love the idea of collage and re-contextualizing previous work. Avatar is a well-known show about a group of kids who save the world, so an apocalypse seemed like a fun and fitting challenge for the characters to face. I think the difference between photo and animation will make for some interesting visual contrast.
