I’m Katya Scott, an aspiring counseling psychologist with a deep interest in the healing potential of art; in my own work, I draw on themes of belonging, community, and love for the natural environment through narrative illustrations. Community takes many shapes in my work, from the bonds that tie my family together to the animal and plant life I coexist with in my Maryland home. In my digital illustrations, I employ a detailed, semi-realistic style of painting, with stylistic elements such as repetitive spirals that communicate a unity throughout. Naturalistic colors ground each scene, while the subject matter ranges from the everyday to the fantastical—sometimes both alongside each other. Most recently, I have focused my work on my connection to Ukraine through my family, exploring these themes of belonging, community, and comfort in juxtaposition to war and migration.
